SKOWHEGAN — A Skowhegan man has been indicted by a Somerset County grand jury on two counts of reckless conduct with a firearm related to a shooting in August.

Shayne Paul Oliver, 22, of Winter Street, is charged with firing a single shot from an SKS assault rifle at a car Aug. 20 on Main Street in Skowhegan, according to court documents. The charges are class C felonies, punishable by up to five years in prison on each count.

No one was hurt, but police said somone could have been.

“When police recovered the SKS, it was still loaded with additional rounds in the magazine,” Deputy Police Chief Dale Lancaster said at the time. “Though the round missed the vehicle, which was fortunate, the trajectory of the bullet still had the potential to do serious harm.”

The car was owned by a Shannon Young of Madison. The car’s driver was Nathaniel Udoroh, also of Madison.

Lancaster said Oliver and Udoroh had been arguing the previous couple of weeks.
