FARMINGTON — The University of Maine at Farmington Fall 2012 Visiting Writers Series will host award-winning poet Richard Blanco. Presented by the UMF Bachelor of Fine Arts in Creative Writing program, Blanco will read from his work at 8 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 27, in The Landing in UMF’s Olsen Student Center. The reading is free and open-to-the-public and will be followed by a signing by the author.

Blanco is the author of three collections of poetry: “City of a Hundred Fires,” “Directions to the Beach of the Dead,” and his most recent publication in 2012 titled “Looking for the Gulf Motel.”

His poetry has been featured in “The Nation,” “The New Republic, Ploughshares,” “Michigan Quarterly Review,” and “TriQuarterly Review.” His poems have appeared in anthologies including “The Best American Poetry,” “Great American Prose Poems,” Breadloaf anthology of “The New American Poets” and “American Poetry: The Next Generation.”
