WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Colby fumbled on its first play from scrimmage and Williams took control from there, polishing off the Mules 41-7 in the season opener for both teams Saturday.
Adam Marske completed 22 of 27 passes for 277 yards and threw three touchdown passes for Williams (1-0), including two to Darren Hartwell. The first came 38 seconds into the game after Colby’s fumble. Williams outgained Colby 410-159 and Colby had 21 yards rushing on 17 attempts.
Cony graduate Luke Duncklee paced Colby (0-1) with eight catches for 66 yards. Duncklee also accounted for Colby’s only touchdown, a 40-yard pass to Michael Lahiff.
Fitchburg St. 34, Maine Maritime 14: Trailing 7-0 in the second quarter, the Falcons scored 34 straight points and went on to the win in Fitchburg, Mass.
Steph’fon Teague led Fitchburg (2-2) with 112 yards and two touchdowns on 15 carries. Quarterback Christian Lopez threw for 193 yards and two scores.
For MMA (0-3), Billy Wetherbee rushed 21 times for 168 yards. The Mariners had the edge in yards (348-342) and first downs (22-16), but lost four fumbles.
Middlebury 42, Bowdoin 18: McCallum Foote passed for 285 yards and five touchdowns to lead the Panthers past the Polar Bears in Middlebury, Vt.
Billy Chapman and Zach Driscoll each caught two touchdown passes for Middlebury (1-0). Remi Ashkar gained 79 yards on 19 rushing attempts.
Bowdoin (0-1) had a chance to get within a field goal in the second half. Trailing 28-18, the Polar Bears recovered a fumble on the Middlebury 26-yard line late in the third quarter. Bowdoin lost the ball on downs, and the Panthers drove 79 yards to a touchdown.
Greg Pierce was the top rusher for Bowdoin, with 82 yards on 18 carries.
Trinity 37, Bates 16: The Bantams won their 44th consecutive home game by holding off the Bobcats in Hartford, Conn.
Trinity held Bates (0-1) to 120 total yards and six first downs, but the Bobcats were still within 21-16 in the third quarter. From that point, Bates ran 18 offensive plays for a total of two yards.
Evan Bunker rushed for 146 yards and two touchdowns on 27 carries for Trinity (1-0).
