DAMARISCOTTA — River Arts in Damariscotta invites submissions for its upcoming exhibition “Artists’ Choice.” The show encourages artists to select submissions that best express their approach to art. This focus reflects jurors’ frequent comment that art should present an artists’ own individuality in subject, treatment and technique — and not simply be an imitation of popular styles.

The exhibit will run from Friday, Oct. 19, to Thursday, Nov. 15. Entries in all media are encouraged. All work entered must be for sale. Wall-hung work should not exceed 40 inches in any dimension, and for safety reasons plexiglass should be used for work larger than 34 inches, excluding pastels.

Juror for this exhibition is Leonard Meiselman. Meiselman is a graduate of Cooper Union and the City College of New York and received additional training in art at the Skowhegan School of Art and the Cranbrook Academy in Michigan. He has given solo exhibitions in London and New York; his paintings have been shown in group shows in New York and Italy. After living and painting in Italy for 17 years, he returned to the U.S. and established his studio in New York City. He recently moved to Maine. Meiselman founded a website for protest art.

Drop-off dates, as well as pick up of works from previous shows, is 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Oct. 12 and 13. Early submissions are accepted during the gallery’s normal hours. Call to arrange early submissions. Work should be dropped off at the River Arts Gallery, 170 Main St., Damariscotta.

Artists can submit up to three works for an entry fee of $15 for members, $20 for non-members. Submitted work may not have been exhibited at the River Arts gallery previously. Entry forms are available at riverartsme.org as well as at the gallery. The opening reception will be 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19.
