Value of nature goes way beyond dollar signs
The story in the Aug. 27 newspaper, which praised researchers for placing a dollar sign on the value of the Belgrade Lakes, should be read by everyone. It is also my hope that half of those reading it realize that placing a monetary value on any freshwater lake, or land or air mass, is pure folly. All parts of this natural Earth are priceless, Belgrade included.

More centrist candidates in open primary system
The Senate race is interesting. Leaving aside the individuals and the personalities, this seems to me a better model, except that we have only one candidate in the middle. The two party candidates represent their respective poles. And, once again, we are in danger of a winner being chosen by a minority.
