AUGUSTA — A city man was taken to the hospital Tuesday after the car he was driving reportedly pulled in front of a sport-utility vehicle on South Belfast Avenue.

Larry Blackston, 41, was taken by ambulance to the hospital after complaining of back pain, said Augusta Police Sgt. Christopher Shaw. The injuries were not believed to be life threatening.

Neither the driver of the other vehicle, Lisa Tamburo, 39, of Windsor, nor her passengers, ages 7 and 9, were injured, Shaw said.

The crash occurred around 5:30 p.m., as Blackston was driving a 2002 Chevrolet Impala east on South Belfast Avenue. Blackston, making a left turn onto Bolton Hill Road, turned into the path of Tamburo’s 2002 Nissan Pathfinder, which was westbound on South Belfast Avenue. The Pathfinder hit the Impala broadside.

WINTHROP — A local man who disappeared last month has returned to his family.

Joshua Dutch, 33, contacted his family from Hanover, N.H., on Sept. 25, according to Winthrop Police Capt. Ryan Frost.

Dutch had been missing since Sept. 15 and police feared for his safety because of a note left for his family and the fact he left his Stanley Road home without a vehicle or belongings.

Frost said Dutch has received medical care since rejoining his family, who went to New Hampshire to pick him up after he called.

His disappearance kicked off a weekend-long search that included Winthrop police and firefighters as well as Maine wardens and state police.

Dutch was spotted that same weekend in Farmington by an off-duty Franklin County sheriff’s deputy.
