ROCKLAND — The Gardiner football team struggled a bit in the first half of its Pine Tree Conference Class B game with Oceanside.

The Tigers fared much better in the second half, parlaying a 20-6 halftime lead into a 41-6 victory Friday night at Wasgatt Memorial Field.

“We didn’t execute on offense in the first half,” Gardiner coach Matt Burgess said, “but we got things rolling a bit in the second.”

Senior quarterback Dennis Meehan paced the Tigers (4-2) with 87 rushing yards and a touchdown. He also completed four of 10 passes for 85 yards and two touchdowns. Josh Moore and Frank Chepke had the touchdown receptions.

Steve Sirois rushed for 70 yards and a touchdown.

“(Oceanside) played some pretty good defense, especially in the first half,” Burgess said. “We struggled early but turned it around.”

Seth Wing rushed for 30 yards and a touchdown for Gardiner, which snapped a two-game losing slide.

“It was important for us to do that,” Burgess said.
