AUGUSTA — A city man faces seven charges each of burglary and theft related to break-ins at various houses, including two near his own home on Bond Brook Road.

Michael Marro, 20, was arrested Saturday at the Augusta State Airport as he attempted to get a bus ticket to leave the state, according to an court affidavit filed by Augusta Police Detective Jason Cote.

A judge on Monday in Kennebec County Superior Court set Marro’s bail at $10,000 cash, and Marro remains in Kennebec County jail.

Cote’s affidavit says Marro admitted breaking into a total of 10 homes — two on Bond Brook Road, and one each on Cummings, Forest, Trueworthy, South Belfast, Mount Vernon and Blaine avenues, as well as Hartwell Lane and Hicks Road.

Cote said that while seven break-ins are being prosecuted, charges relating to the other three are expected to be brought later.

The burglaries occurred between July and October.

Following his arrest, Marro drove around with police and pointed out homes he said he burglarized, Cote said.

Marro was living with a relative on Bond Brook Road when two break-ins at nearby homes were reported in August.

Among the items stolen from the homes were a Makita Drill set, which was later recovered from an Augusta pawn shop and identified by the homeowner, a large safe and an Apple MacBook.

In addition, a large number of rolled coins were reported stolen from a South Belfast Avenue home, and police found video footage from Hannaford on Cony Street that they said shows Marro and another man using a coin machine there to redeem coins for $700 in cash that same day.

Cash stolen from there and other homes, and money from pawning items in the Augusta and Hallowell area, apparently funded a hotel room, new clothes and a new cellphone, among other items, Cote’s affidavit says.
