An honest letter from a politician? I got one recently, and as hard as that might be to believe, this was no campaign letter.
Democratic Rep. Jeff McCabe, House District 85, wanted feedback about how a new state law affected my business.
The new law, passed by Republicans in Augusta, has been criticized as a giveaway to insurance companies, which lets them raise our rates based on how old we are, where we work and where we live. Communities such as Skowhegan are getting a raw deal.
I told McCabe that we’ve had a bad experience with the law, and was glad to hear that he voted against it. He had the same concerns.
Policymakers should be asking how state laws affecting us, instead of telling us. McCabe has always operated this way, and I hope you’ll join me in re-electing him next month.
