KANSAS CITY, Mo. — T.J. Tynan scored the game’s only goal as the Notre Dame men’s hockey team beat the University of Maine 1-0 in the Ice Breaker Tournament on Friday night.

Tynan scored 2 minutes, 59 seconds into the third period to win the game for Notre Dame. Bryan Rust and Robbie Russo each had an assist on the goal for Notre Dame.

Dan Sullivan made a total of 22 saves in the first period and second period to keep the game scoreless for Maine (0-2-0). Sullivan made 11 more saves in the third period to finish with 33.

Maine has managed just one goal in its two regular season games thus far. The Black Bears lost their season opener 2-1 to Quinnipiac on Friday, Oct. 5. Maine managed just two goals in 2-2 tie with New Brunswick in an exhibition game Saturday, Oct. 6.

Maine will play the winner of Friday’s late game between Army and Nebraska/Omaha at 4:30 p.m. today.
