NORTH ANSON — Despite heavy showers, about 200 people traveled to a North Anson gun range to fire machine guns in a benefit for veterans injured in combat.
The third annual Wounded Warrior Machine Gun Shoot on Sunday saw participants take aim at targets ranging from explosives-packed pumpkins to old pickup truck bodies.
Range owner Andy Williams, who founded the event, tells the Bangor Daily News that about 15,000 rounds were fired in five hours.
The guns fired ranged from a replica of a hand-cranked 1884 Colt gatling gun to an M60 machine gun.
Williams said all proceeds from the event will be donated to the Maine Wounded Warrior Program.
