Although I recently moved out of his district, I want to express my support for Matt Pouliot, Republican candidate for House District 57.
I was disturbed by a recent letter to the editor published Oct. 12 that accused Pouliot of representing special interests because he opposed the tax shift bill passed during the 124th Legislature.
In reality, special interests helped write the bill and spent more than half a million dollars campaigning for it — far more than opponents spent.
Despite that, Augusta — like the rest of the state — voted to repeal the bill after a successful grass-roots campaign, just as they had with the Dirigo Tax two years before.
In both cases, residents of Augusta voted overwhelmingly against new taxes that Democratic Patsy Crockett voted for. Augusta needs a representative who will look out for them. That person is Pouliot.
