In Augusta, we disproportionately accept the state’s increasing number of forensic patients as a result of the location of Riverview mental facility, and now we are expected to simply accept them into our neighborhoods as well with no input from our community. I think that’s wrong.

As your state representative, I would tackle this problem on Day 1. I will propose “An act to permit greater local control for forensic patients into our communities.” The goal of the bill will be to allow for municipalities such as Augusta to have input and ultimate decision-making ability when it comes to placing patients (or recently discharged patients) into the community. I hope to obtain the support needed to get this bill passed.

Please send me to the State House so I can hit the ground running and get much-needed work done on Day 1.
