FARMINGTON — The Mt. Blue football team turned in an outstanding effort to finish the regular season unbeaten, defeating Waterville 53-24, at Kemp Field on Friday in the Pine Tree Conference Class B regular-season finale for both teams.

The Cougars registered their first unbeaten regular season in 26 years.

“I think we are ready for the playoff,” Mt. Blue coach Gary Parlin said. “Our kids have done a great job this season and now we need to continue the effort.”

Six different players scored for the Cougars who jumped out to a 14-9 lead in the first period, on a 9-yard run by Chad Luker and a 29-run scamper down the right side line by Nate Backus. Mt. Blue added a pair of touchdowns in the second quarter (a15-yard pass from Whitney to Luker and a 14-yard run by Zak Kendall) to push the lead to 28-9 at halftime.

Nate Backus continued the high-scoring attack in the third period for Mt. Blue racing 88 yards on the opening kickoff.

Mt. Blue turned to the big play in the third quarter with Kindle Bonsall scoring on a 66-yard touchdown pass from Whitney and Calan Lucas bursting up the middle for a 73 yard score to give the Cougars owning a 47-9 lead at the end of three periods.

Jordhan Levine kicked 29-yard field goal in the first quarter to give Waterville a 3-0 lead. Devin Burgess scored on a 7-yard TD pass from Aidan FitzGerald in the second quarter for Waterville. Brian Bellows scored on an 8-yard run and Evan Greatorex caught a 29-yard TD pass from Andrew Godin in the fourth quarter.
