In response to the writer who complained about Sen. Roger Katz, R-Augusta, appearing at the Walk for Hope, I offer the following:

Last March, I was diagnosed with Stage IVB cancer. After surgery, radiation and eight rounds of chemotherapy, today I am a cancer survivor.

I received great care at the Harold Alfond Center for Cancer Care, but the support I received from my friends, colleagues and others was also important.

Katz was one of those whose friendship, professional courtesy and support made my recovery much less stressful. I don’t live in his district, but he’d have my vote if I did because he is a good, honorable man who has been a terrific state senator.
