BEDFORD, N.H. — A 5-year-old cat that was badly burned in a New Hampshire barn fire is back home, and has a pig to thank.

Gumbo the cat was in the barn when it caught fire on Sept. 6 at the Perry Hill Farm in Bedford and killed 14 horses.

Owner Harriet Finks presumed Gumbo was dead after he couldn’t be found for three days.

But she told WMUR-TV her 1,000-pound pig, Miss Colby, went into the woods and found the cat, leading rescuers to his location.

“We were out a few days after the fire and the pig was on a mission to go somewhere,” Finks told the TV station. “I followed her and she found Gumbo in the woods.”

Gumbo needed a month and a half of veterinary care, suffering second-degree burns to her face, paws, ears and tail. Finks said he is expected to recover.
