This letter is in response to Elaine Bridge (letter, Oct. 17), a “notary of faith” who was urging a no vote on Question 1.

I also am a notary. My husband and I regularly attend a church that encourages participation by all people, regardless of their background.

Bridge is correct that a notary cannot refuse to do a same-sex marriage simply on those grounds; however, she obviously can refuse to do any marriage if she is not available.

I look forward to performing wedding ceremonies for any couple, and I will be particularly excited to perform ceremonies for same-sex couples that have not previously had this privilege in Maine.

While I respect her beliefs, Bridge should feel free to send those couples my way.
