WATERVILLE — Two men and a 14-year-old girl who later was found with a knife in her bra were arrested late Monday after they reportedly broke into an apartment on Water Street and assaulted three people there.

Deputy police Chief Charles Rumsey said Tuesday three people who were in the apartment told police three others broke into the apartment and assaulted them.

Arrested were Clifford Dumont, 20, Junious Liggins Jr., 32, and the 14-year-old, each of whom was charged with class B felony burglary, three misdemeanor assaults and one count of theft.

Rumsey said police, who arrived at the apartment at 9:45, were told “one male (in the apartment) had been threatened by one of the suspects, who held a knife to his throat and threatened to kill him.”

“Another male sprayed the occupants of the apartment with pepper spray, and a wallet and cellphone were stolen from one of the people during the fray,” Rumsey said.

Dumont and a man in the apartment had a disagreement about a woman, who was the ex-girlfriend of one of the men and current girlfriend of another, Rumsey said.

An exchange of text messages culminated in Dumont, Liggins and the teenager going to the apartment, Rumsey said.

Police later found the trio on Sherwin Street. The teenager also was charged with trafficking in dangerous knives because she had a knife in her bra when arrested, and Dumont was also charged with violating condition of release, Rumsey said.

Dumont and Liggins were taken to Kennebec County Jail in Augusta, and the girl was given a conditional release to her mother. All three are scheduled to appear in Kennebec County Superior Court on Dec. 11.

Meanwhile, Rumsey said that when police found the trio on Sherwin Street, Kerri Coderre, 30, of Waterville, was with them and was arrested on an outstanding warrant for unpaid fines and fees.
