PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Providence College scored 1 minutes, 27 seconds into the game and beat the University of Maine 3-0 in a Hockey East men’s game Saturday at Schneider Arena.
Ross Mauermann gave Providence a 1-0 lead when his shot went just inside the cross bar past Maine goalie Dan Sullivan early in the first period.
The Friars pushed their lead to 2-0 at 10:23 in a 4-on-4 situation when Shane Luke beat Sullivan on his blocker side. Providence finished the scoring on a power-play goal at 8:04 of the second period by Kevin Hart.
Sullivan finished with 39 saves for Maine, which falls to 1-6-0, 0-2-0 in Hockey East play.
Jon Gillies had 26 saves for Providence (3-2-1, 2-1-0 in Hockey East).
