FAIRFIELD — U.S. Route 201 will be closed at the Hinckley railroad crossing early next week for a planned upgrade to the crossing.
The road will be closed on Nov. 5, 6 and 7, according to Mark Sawyer of the Maine Department of Transportation.
Sawyer said the upgrade was originally planned to take place this week, but that concerns about the impact of Hurricane Sandy caused it to be delayed by a week. A detour route will be established while the work, which is part of a larger upgrade by Pan Am Railways, is completed. Sawyer said that it is possible the work will be completed in time to reopen the crossing after two days but that the extra day has been scheduled to account for possible delays.
