PITTSFIELD – Maine Central Institute’s Visiting Guest Artist program begins its 12th year, bringing in artists for four days of clinics, workshops and rehearsals with MCI students. The program culminates in the fall jazz concert at 6 p.m. Thursday in Parks Gym.

Visiting Guest Artist John Cooper has served as Professor of Music and Composer in Residence at the College of the Atlantic in Bar Harbor since 1989. Cooper is a saxophonist, bassist, jazz vocalist, brass doubles and synthesist/pianist with an active performance schedule that includes major venues in Philadelphia/Baltimore and the casinos of Atlantic City, as well as the Maine Center for the Arts and various sites in Downeast Maine. He has composed numerous film scores and served as conductor of the Maine All State Jazz Band, the Maine All State Jazz Honors Band, and the Maine All State Jazz Combo.
