MONMOUTH — Monmouth held Hall-Dale scoreless for the last 13 minutes of the game en route to a 32-25 win in Mountain Valley Conference boys basketball action Wednesday night.

Kasey Smith led the Mustangs with 12 points. Billy Cummings added 11. Michael Woods led Hall-Dale with eight points.

“It wasn’t a stall by any means,” Monmouth coach Lucas Turner said. “It was just good hard man-to-man defense. On the offensive end we had to be very disciplined, looking for layups and wide open jumpers.”

Monmouth is 1-1, Hall-Dale is 2-1.

Boothbay 58, Winthrop 41: John Hepburn scored 23 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the Seahawks over the Ramblers in Mountain Valley Conference play.

Hepburn scored 11 points in the first quarter, when Boothbay (3-0) took a 20-6 lead. Anthony DeMauro added 12 points for the Seahawks.

Cris Bander led Winthrop (1-2) with 10 points.

Girls basketball

Boothbay 76, Winthrop 18: Abby McLellan had 19 points as the Seahawks beat the Ramblers in Boothbay Harbor.

Alexandra Clarke added 17 and Alison Cook 12 for Boothbay.

Shauna Carlson had 12 points for Winthrop.

Women’s college basketball

UMaine-Augusta 77, Southern Maine Community College 69, OT: Arreonte Lee and Cony grad Allyssa Marson combined for six 3-pointers and 52 points as the Moose earned a Yankee Small College Conference victory in Augusta.

Lee scored 27 points and Marson added 25. Winslow grad Haley Madore pulled down a game-high 22 rebounds. Mt. Blue grad Corinne Dingley added 12 points and 10 rebounds for UMA (8-5 overall, 6-3 YSCC). The Moose won despite committing 44 turnovers.

Rogetta Donalson had 27 points, seven rebounds, and six steals for SMCC (9-3, 5-2).
