SKOWHEGAN — A verdict in the murder trial of Robert Nelson, 41, of Norridgewock, is expected Tuesday morning in Somerset County Superior Court.

Justice John Nivison is expected to issue a ruling at 8:30 a.m. Nelson waived his right to a jury trial, closing arguments in which were heard Dec. 5.

Nelson is accused of killing Everett L. Cameron, 60, of Anson, on Town Farm Road in Anson on Oct. 31, 2009.

Prosecutors said during trial that Nelson killed Cameron over a drug debt. Nelson admitted on the stand that he bought oxycodone from Cameron, who was prescribed the pills, owed Cameron $35 and met him on Town Farm Road the day of the murder, to discuss the debt. Nelson denied shooting Cameron in the head, insisting he was attending his daughter’s birthday party at the time of the killing and that Cameron had several visitors to his truck that day.

Nelson plead guilty on Dec. 3 to a felony charge of possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, a second charge contained in the same indictment. Nivision has not yet sentenced Nelson on that charge; the maximum penalty is five years in prison and a $5,000 fine.
