KITTERY — The Navy has chosen the next commander of the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.

The appointment of Capt. William Green was announced on Wednesday. Greene, who serves as the military deputy for shipyard operations at the Naval Sea Systems Command, will succeed the current commander, Capt. L. Bryant Fuller, this summer.

Greene is a native of Ann Arbor, Mich., who has served numerous engineering and combat systems assignments, including posting at Navy shipyard at Puget Sound, Wash., and Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.

He holds a nuclear engineering degree and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Florida, and master’s degrees in mechanical engineering and naval architecture and marine engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
