It’s got to stop!
Headlines in the Dec. 16 newspaper on page A1: “Christmas decorations taken down;” page A2, “Chinese school attack: 22 kids, 1 adult injured.”
Summary: On Dec. 14, evil and violence visited two schools; one in China and one in the United States. In Chengping, Henan Province, China, a knife-welding villager “injured” 22 children and one adult outside a primary school. In Newtown, Conn., a 20-year-old slaughtered 20 children and six adults at an elementary school.
Yes, evil exists in the world, and yes, mental illness exists in the world, but it’s not about the guns. “It’s about the numbers, stupid!”
If, in this democratic republic, compromise between these extremes is not possible we don’t deserve to call ourselves civilized, let alone free.
