Snowmobile trails groomed at start of promising season
BELGRADE -- Ernie Rice motored slowly through a tunnel of snow-bent hemlock trees Sunday, while flurries swirled through the air. Behind his snowmobile, Rice towed a 400-pound metal drag and groomed the wind-blown powder into a path as smooth as polished marble.

Jennifer Fielding launches her daughter, Abbie, 9, rear, and Lia Umland, 5, in a sled Sunday, down a hill at the Oaklands Farm in Gardiner. Another six inches of snow fell between Saturday and Sunday, creating perfect conditions for winter expeditions.
