SKOWHEGAN — The University of Maine Cooperative Extension will offer its master gardener program. The course will be a split session format will be 9 a.m.-noon on Mondays at the Somerset County Extension Office. The first session is set for March 4 through May 6. The second session is set for Sept. 9-Oct. 7.
The course will feature an online manual that requires a reliable Internet connection. Participants in the program will receive 15 three-hour training sessions on gardening. The program will focus on ornamental horticulture, ecological landscaping and volunteerism. Projects can include such things as community gardening, planting and maintaining a community vegetable garden, designing and creating a mobile display to be used at fairs and other public functions.
The fee is on a sliding scale determined by household income. Scholarships are available. Applications are due Friday, Feb. 15
