BRUNSWICK — Gillian Ford sent a wrister through traffic, and it reached the back of the net, giving Brunswick a 2-1 overtime victory over Winslow in the girls hockey East quarterfinals Thursday night at Bowdoin College’s Watson Arena.

Ford’s score, a power-play goal, came 1:05 into the first overtime.

Miranda Gagne scored for Winslow. Raiders goalie Jessica Cain made 30 saves.

Fourth-seeded Brunswick (8-11) moves on to play top-seeded and defending state champion Greely (15-2-1) at 6:40 p.m. Saturday at Family Ice Center in Falmouth. Greely swept two games from the Dragons this season.

No. 5 Winslow is done at 5-11-3.

This was the third meeting between Brunswick and Winslow, but the first since Dec. 5. They split the season series, each game decided by one goal.

And Game No. 3 figured to be just as close.

Winslow got on the board first, just 1:19 into the second period. Jen Poulin sent in a shot, with Gagne screening. Gagne stuffed it for a 1-0 Raiders lead.

The score came after Winslow held on in the first period, after Brunswick out-shot the Raiders 14-7. The Dragons kept up the pressure, but Winslow defensemen, led by Alexis LaChance, Reagan Cain and Hillary Libby kept Brunswick wide for the most part. When Brunswick got through, Jessica Cain was there for the save.

Poulin, Britany Whitaker and Paige Veilleux-Adams created some chances in the first period, but Brunswick goalie Claire Mendes was there.

Winslow got the jump and the first score in the second period. But Brunswick eventually tied it at 13:32 of the period. The Dragons applied several shots and Ashley Hartford finally scored through a scrum.

In the third period, it was more of the same, with Brunswick out-shooting Winslow 9-4, but the Raiders getting their chances, especially with shots from Poulin and Gagne.

Near the end of the third period, the Raiders were called for interference, and the power play continued into overtime.
