UNITY — The Sebasticook Regional Land Trust will celebrate Great Maine Outdoor Weekend with a wood duck talk and walk Saturday, Feb. 16.

According to a press release, participants can learn about wood ducks, their habitat, nesting box construction and proper installation. Wildlife biologist Keel Kemper of the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife will lead a one-hour informational session at the SRLT office, 93 Main St. in Unity, beginning at 9 a.m.

After the talk, everyone is invited to carpool to the SRLT’s Kanokolus Bog Preserve on Route 9. Participants can assist with the installation of a wood duck nesting box while enjoying this unique bog.

The event will end back at the SRLT office with hot chocolate and refreshments, wrapping up by noon. Participants will receive instructions for building their own nesting box. There will be door prize drawings for a free nesting box and Great Maine Outdoor Weekend commemorative prints.

This event is free and open to the public, but advanced sign-up is encouraged.
