FARMINGTON — The manager of Titcomb Mountain said she is disappointed after a $600 video surveillance system was stolen early Sunday morning from community ski area.

Manager Karleen Andrews said the organization has little money to spare and will have a hard time replacing the expensive equipment.

“We’re a very small business with a limited budget. Any time there is a break-in, it’s really difficult to recover,” she said.

Titcomb Mountain is a small, community-based ski area that is owned and operated by members of the Farmington Ski Club.

The staff and volunteers run children’s programming, including ski lessons for 300-400 children every year, and about 300 families buy season passes annually, she said.

“It’s hard to believe that individuals would target something that provides so much to families,” she said.

A ski area employee called the Farmington Police Department at 2:07 a.m. Sunday after arriving for work and noticing that the back door was open. The employee was unable to tell if the door was left open or if someone had broken in, according to a dispatcher at the police department.

Officers Erik Candage and Darin Gilbert investigated and discovered that the video security system was stolen from the main office.

The incident remains under investigation.
