HOLLISTON, Mass. — Katie Chamberlain, of Somerville, formerly of Waterville, recently received the 2012 Volunteer of the Year Award from the New England Water Works Association, the region’s largest and oldest not-for-profit organization of water works professionals, according to a press release.

Chamberlain was the main event coordinator for the association’s successful 2012 Water For People fundraising gala, which raised about $40,000 to support drinking water and sanitation projects in developing countries around the world. Last year, she was appointed chair of the association’s Water For People Committee.

She is a project engineer at the Boston office of CH2M HILL, an international consulting engineering firm. She is responsible for working with utilities on the planning, design and optimization of water and wastewater infrastructure projects.

She received a bachelor of science degree in chemical engineering at Rennselaer Polytechnic Institute and a master’s of science degree in environmental engineering from Colorado School of Mines.
