TROY — Fire on Monday destroyed a house at 3 Alley Lane, leaving three people homeless in this Waldo County town.

Tammy and Melvin Perkins and Tammy Perkins’ father, lived in the small, one-story home, according to Lisa Chase, Fire Department secretary.

Chase said she did not know the father’s name. The family’s animals, believed to be a dog and cat, were lost in the fire, which was reported around 11:30 a.m., she said.

“They lost everything — and their pets,” Chase said.

About 80 firefighters from seven towns — Troy, Unity, Detroit, Newburgh, Plymouth, Dixmont and Thorndike — responded to the blaze, she said.

They were able to save a mobile home that was occupied by a relative and was about 15 feet from the house, she said.

The state Fire Marshal’s Office also was at the scene and is investigating the fire, Chase said.

Central Maine Power Co. shut off power to the house. The American Red Cross also responded to the fire, she said.

Officials closed down U.S. Route 202 and Route 9 for about five hours, according to Chase.

She said she believed the couple had lived in the house only a couple of years.
