LePage budget focus of Augusta forum

AUGUSTA — A public forum focusing on Gov. Paul LePage’s proposed two-year budget will begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 23, at the Lecture Hall at City Center.

Reps. Lori Fowle, Matt Pouliot, Corey Wilson and Sen. Roger Katz will answer residents’ questions and listen to concerns and suggestions on how to balance Maine’s budget for the next two years.

 

UMS trustees to meet at UMA

AUGUSTA — The Board of Trustees of the University of Maine System will meet on Monday at the University of Maine at Augusta’s Randall Student Technology Center.

The meeting will focus on faculty tenure. Twenty-five faculty members from across the state will be considered and reviewed by trustees.

Staff members will provide updates on system initiatives.

Other items for review include a new unified statewide employment background screening policy and appointments to university-related boards and committees.

Taxpayers United to hold debt forum

GARDINER — Maine Taxpayers United will hold an event focusing on the impact on Maine taxpayers of the national debt, from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, March 23, at Gardiner Area High School, 40 West Hill Road.

“Will we Cause our Children be Buried in Our Debt?” will feature speakers Bruce Poliquin, former state treasurer, and Scott Lansley, former representative of District 75.

Attendees will hear an update on the spending battle in the Maine Legislature and how it affects the average Mainer’s financial quality of life.

Nomination papers available in Windsor

WINDSOR —  Nomination papers will be available Monday for the following: selectmen, assessor and overseer of the poor — one position, three-year term; Budget Committee — three positions, each a three-year term, and two alternate positions, one three-year term and one two-year term; and Regional School Unit 12 Board — one position, three-year term.
