OAKLAND — Maine’s first lady, Ann LePage, will help officially open Bedside Manor, an Alzheimer’s disease care facility, on Wednesday, according to a news release.

LePage said she was honored to attend the ceremony at 2:30 p.m. at 461 Belgrade Road, according to the announcement from Gov. Paul LePage’s office on Monday.

The manor is owned and operated by siblings Julie Benecke and Edward Fabian, whose mother has Alzheimer’s disease.

Their mother, known as Gram, was the inspiration for the manor after staying in another facility, Benecke said in the release.

“We chose a facility that catered specifically to folks with Alzheimer’s, but even after several months, Mom just never really felt comfortable being one of many,” Benecke said. “We finally thought, ‘if there isn’t an existing solution, let’s make our own,’ and the concept of Bedside Manor was born.”
