WATERVILLE — No charges are likely in connection with a traffic accident Friday afternoon on Main Street that sent five people to the hospital, police say.

The accident happened when the front of a pickup truck driven by Albert DiPietro, 27, of Richmond, hit the rear of a car driven by Monica Poliquin, 24, of Palermo.

DiPietro said at the time that Poliquin was on a cellphone and her car stopped abruptly, causing the accident.

Poliquin was taken to MaineGeneral Medical Center’s Thayer Campus along with two other adults and two children who were traveling in her car, according to Waterville police Sgt. Alden Weigelt.

Matthew Lafountain, 27, of Winslow, was in the front passenger seat, while Scott Fletcher, 29, of Waterville, was in the middle of the back seat. Two boys, aged 1 and 3, were also in the back seat, Weigelt said.

At the time of the accident, one of the children complained of a bump on the head, while at least two of the adults reported having neck and back pain.

“It does not appear as though there will be any charges,” Weigelt said.
