BENTON — An accident on Interstate 95, near exit 133, on Monday evening closed the highway for about an hour, and a medical evacuation helicopter was called in to transport at least one victim to the hospital.

Maine State Police blocked off more than five miles of the interstate shortly after the accident, which occurred around 7:30 p.m. near a construction area.

It was unclear to a reporter near the scene in which lane the accident took place.

Emergency services radio messages indicated at least one person was trapped inside a vehicle and was being extracted with the aid of cutting tools.

A LifeFlight of Maine helicopter arrived at 7:46 p.m. on the highway, according to scanner traffic.

The interstate was reopened to traffic around 8:40 p.m., according to emergency services radio messages.

Additional information was unavailable late Monday evening.
