Police nail suspect in theft of polish

FARMINGTON — Police arrested a 55-year-old man Wednesday for trying to walk out of Walmart with 20 bottles of bright-colored nail polish.

A Walmart employee spotted Martin F. Spaay, of Livermore, trying to walk out of the store around noon without paying for the nail polish and asked him to remain in the store, police secretary Bonnie Pomeroy said.

Employees called police, and Officer Stephen Gould arrested Spaay at 12:20 p.m. on the charge of shoplifting after interviewing employees.

The nail polish was worth $66, she said.

Spaay was released on $100 cash bail.
