The Portland Sea Dogs released their roster for the start of the 2013 season, and it is filled with both familiar and new names.

Jackie Bradley Jr., listed as Boston’s No. 2 prospect by Baseball America, is not returning to Portland. His incredible spring training and his impressive major league debut have guaranteed that.

But Portland will have the Nos. 1 and 3 Red Sox prospects shortstop Xander Bogaerts and pitcher Matt Barnes.

Bogaerts, 20, played 23 games for Portland at the end of last season, batting .326. Bogaerts signed with Boston four years ago as an international free agent out of Aruba.

Barnes, 22, was a Boston first-round draft pick out of the University of Connecticut in 2011. He pitched all season in Class A last year, compiling a 7-5 record and 2,86 ERA.

The other big name coming back to the Sea Dogs is reliever Daniel Bard. He is returning to the minors to work on his consistency.

The Sea Dogs open their season with a seven-game home stand, beginning Thursday at 6 p.m.

Portland’s current roster has 26 players. The Eastern League limit is 25 so one player will be placed on the inactive list before the season begins.

PITCHERS: Daniel Bard, Matt Barnes, Drake Britton, Miguel Celestino, Keith Couch, Brock Huntzinger, Kyle Kaminska, Will Latimer, Chris Martin, Anthony Ranaudo, Pete Ruiz, Brandon Workman.

OUTFIELDERS: Ronald Bermudez, Peter Hissey, Tony Thomas, Shannon Wilkerson.

Kevin Boles returns as manager, as does Bob Kipper as pitching coach. Former Red Sox catcher Rich Gedman is the new hitting coach.
