FARMINGTON — The United Way of the Tri-Valley Area is looking for community partners who have projects that will engage volunteers in a variety of opportunities June through early fall, 2013, according to a press release.

Local organizations identify a project they would like to accomplish, provide the materials and overall site supervision while the United Way of the Tri-Valley Area provides the volunteers needed to get the job done.

Last year projects ranged from stacking wood, painting the exterior of a municipal building, weatherizing a food pantry/thrift shop, helping set-up and breakdown local festivals, making button bracelets, gardening, trail-clearing and building interior storm window panels.

All told, 240 volunteers contributed 1,176 hours to the community to accomplish 14 projects over 11 Days of Caring, investing $19,804 in service hours alone and $4,203 of in-kind contributions of supplies and professional services.

The ripple effect from these efforts has been tremendous. Businesses and organizations who were enriched by this experience have an even greater understanding of and value for volunteerism, and many volunteers continue to volunteer countless hours or have expressed interest in continuing to connect to new and varied volunteer opportunities available in Franklin County.

To make this a safe experience for all, sites are required to have project oversight with the necessary expertise on hand to direct the project. A committee will review all applications with a focus on providing diverse and meaningful volunteer opportunities that are doable on a Day of Caring. Each volunteer will need to sign a release form (provided by the United Way) in order to participate. Certificates of insurance will be required of each organization.

The deadline for proposals is Tuesday, April 30. Proposal forms are available at uwtva.org and at the United Way office on Broadway.
