LEWISTON — A Lewiston woman stabbed in the face during an attack outside her apartment says her thick winter coat saved her from additional harm.
Adut Adong suffered a gash on her cheek in the attack just after midnight Thursday.
Her estranged husband, Deng Mirac, faces charges including elevated aggravated assault.
The 34-year-old Adong tells WGME-TV she arrived home to find Mirac waiting for her. She says she already had a restraining order against him for previous domestic violence assaults.
She says he slammed her head against a window, slashed her face, then tried to stab her in the stomach, but her thick coat protected her.
The 42-year-old Mirac ran away when a neighbor screamed out a window that she was calling police. He was arrested nearby.
