BOSTON — A $4,000 flute lost by its owner on the MBTA has been returned.

A spokesman for the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority says the young woman who owns the flute left it on a bench at the Park Street subway station on March 25.

The T later released surveillance photos and video that showed a man picking up the flute’s case from the bench and walking onto the train with it.

The spokesman tells The Boston Globe that someone turned the flute in to transit police, who returned it to the owner.

He says both people wished to remain anonymous.
