WINTHROP — A young mother-to-be was taken to the hospital this morning after crashing her car on U.S. Route 202.

Christina Poulin, 22, of Augusta, who is six months pregnant, was taken by ambulance to MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta after complaining of pain, said Winthrop Police Officer Paul Ferland.

The crash occurred around 9 a.m. just west of Carlton Pond Road as Poulin was driving her Chrysler PT Cruiser west on Route 202.

Ferland said Poulin swerved to avoid a car turning left into a driveway at 2295 Route 202. Poulin overcorrected the car and veered across the eastbound lane and over an embankment, narrowly missing a guardrail. The Cruiser went into a deep culvert and overturned onto its passenger’s side.

Vehicles on Route 202 continued to move through one open lane for about 30 minutes until the wrecked vehicle was hauled away. The car sustained relatively minor damage, Ferland said.
