WATERVILLE — Hannah King and the Trinity softball team beat Megan Michie and Colby 1-0 in a New England Small College Athletic Conference pitchers’ duel Friday.

King allowed just one hit, struck out three and walked one to earn the win for Trinity (9-16, 2-5 in the New England Small College Athletic Conference).

Michie took the tough loss, allowing two hits, striking out four and walking four.

Kerry McCarthy led off the fourth inning with a single, moved to second on an error, took third on a sacrifice bunt by Oliva Berry and scored on an RBI groundout by Miranda Riendeau-Card.

MMA 6-8, UM-Farmington 3-11: Cony High School graduate Amy Jones had three hits and four RBIs to lift the Beavers to a victory in the second game of a doubleheader in Farmington.

UMF lost the first game 6-3.

Jones had a double and a home run in the first game and also scored twice. Kaitlyn Bartlett added three hits, two RBIs and a run scored for UMF (10-11).

In the first game, Abby Yeo pitched seven innings, allowing three runs on 10 hits, while walking two and striking out five for MMA (12-15). Valley High School graduate Cindy Schultz scored three times in the doubleheader for the Mainers.

Baseball

Trinity 9, Colby 2: The Bantams scored four runs in the top of the fifth inning on their way to a win over the Mules in Waterville.

Scott Staniewicz ked the Jumbos with three hits. Kevin Galvin paced Colby with thre e hits and a run, Jason Buco added two hits and an RBI and Tyler Starks a run and a hit. Tufts is 19-7 overall and 5-3 in NESCAC play while Colby is 7-14, 0-7.

Track and field

Holy Cross multi-event meet: Messalonskee High School graduate Jesse Labreck set two school records for the University of Maine on Thursday.

Labreck scored 5,345 points in the hepthatlon to win the event and broke her previous school record of 5,129 points. She won the 200 meter (25.79 seconds), 800 (2:18.51), 100 hurdles (13.79), long jump (19-5.5) and high jump (5-9.25). She broke her own record of 5-8.5 in the high jump.
