WATERVILLE — U.S. Rep. Michael Michaud, D-2nd District, will speak at an annual wreath-laying ceremony May 19, at St. Francis & Pine Grove Cemetery on Grove Street.

The ceremony, hosted by American Legion Post 5, will start at 11 a.m., according to event Chairman Charles Maroon.

The event honors all heroes — veterans, police officers, firefighters and those who gave their lives so that others may be free of oppression, according to Maroon. All organizations and families who have lost loved ones are invited to attend and are advised to bring chairs.

Scheduled participants include Post 5 American Legion Honor Guards and Unit 5 Auxiliary; the Waterville and Winslow fire departments; Waterville and Winslow Veterans of Foreign Wars members and auxiliaries; the Waterville Elks Lodge; the Waterville and Winslow Knights of Columbus; the Marine Corps League; Jack Stearns, representing the Order of the Purple Heart; and Kennebec Valley Chordsmen.

Those wanting more information are asked to contact Maroon at 872-9650 or Adjutant Ernie Paradis or Commander Gil Pelletier at the Post 5 home at 872-8824.
