SALEM TOWNSHIP — State police are investigating the report of a shotgun being fired outside a home during a domestic dispute.

No one was injured and the adult was not shooting at anyone when the shotgun was fired outside the house during the Monday morning dispute, said. Sgt. Jeff Beach of the Maine State Police.

Police were heading to the home Monday at 9:15 a.m. for a report of a domestic disturbance and while en route received another report of a person in the yard firing a shotgun, he said. There were two adults and more than one child home at the time, Beach said.

Beach said when police arrived everyone was cooperative. The shotgun had already been put away and a person involved in the dispute handed it over to the police. No one was arrested and police are still investigating the incident and plan to file charges today after the investigation is finished, he said.

Police are not releasing the names of the people at this time.

The two state troopers who responded were assisted by two Franklin County Sheriff’s deputies.
