GARDINER — Freshman Katie Canning struck out eight and walked two in her varsity debut as Gardiner defeated Waterville 10-2 in Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Class B softball action Friday.

Freshman Bri Brochu led Gardiner hitters with two triples and two RBIs while Katelyn Boyington singled twice and drove in two runs and Morgan Carver doubled for Gardiner (7-0).

Morgan Pellerin and Michaela DeVogt each singled and doubled for Waterville (1-6).

Oak Hill 5, Mountain Valley 4: Brooke LeBel hit bases loaded single to score two runs with two outs to lead the Raiders to the Mountain Valley Conference win in Wales.

Alyssa Rouleau and Kortni Michaud each had two singles for Oak Hill (4-2).

Brooke Dolloff tripled and singled for the Falcons (2-3).


Cony 12, Lewiston 0, 6 innings: Sonja Morse and Arika Brochu each pitched three innings of a two-hit shutout as the Rams dominated the Blue Devils in Lewiston.

Four of Cony’s nine hits were for extra bases. Morse and Alyssah Dennett doubled, Kassidy Turgeon tripled and freshman Sydney Cheever belted a home run. Morse also had a single for Cony (7-0). Lewiston is 1-6.

Edward Little 19, Erskine 6: Danielle Rock had two doubles and a single to lead the Red Eddies to the KVAC A win in South China. Kory Norcross added a double and a single for Edward Little (3-3).

Avery Bond led the Eagles (3-4) with a double and a single while Taylor Boucher and Alyssa Gartley each had two singles.

MCI 14, Maranacook 1, 5 innings: Paige Topel had two bases-loaded triples and a single to go along with six RBIs to lead the Huskies to the KVAC B win in Pittsfield.

Victoria Drake, Carolyn Newhouse and Kat Smedberg each had two singles for MCI (4-3). Courtney Fowler pitched a two-hitter with seven strikeouts for the Huskies.


Elise Linton doubled and Sydney Cameron singled for Maranacook (2-5).

Spruce Mountain 17, Monmouth 6: Mariah Castonguay had a double and Katelin Castonguay earned the win as Spruce Mountain (4-2) won the MVC game in Monmouth.

Mikayla Cameron was 4 for 4 for Monmouth (2-3) while Kylie Kemp, Sabrina Beck and Daisi Poole each had two hits.

Dirigo 10, Winthrop 8: Cat Ouellette tripled and singled but the host Ramblers fell in the MVC game. Lily Ouellette doubled and singled for Winthrop (3-2) while Tessie Moody added two singles. Krissi Doughty earned the win, striking out 12 and walking two.

Dirigo improves to 5-1.
