AUGUSTA — Past Maine legislators, some of whom served nearly six decades ago, are being welcomed back to the State House.
Thursday’s Welcome Back Day includes a public recognition of the veteran lawmakers, along with a luncheon for them in the Hall of Flags.
Among those honored were the man and woman who served the longest ago. They are Sherman F. Baird, who represented North Haven in the House for two terms starting in 1955, and Esther Shaw of Chelsea, who served two House terms starting in 1961. Both were escorted to the House rostrum to be recognized.
