Police: Alcohol may have been factor in Route 17 motorcycle crash Friday

WASHINGTON — Police said they think alcohol was a factor in a Friday night motorcycle crash on Route 17 that injured a 51-year-old Union man.

It’s unknown what caused Steven Sanner to lose control of his 1988 Harley-Davidson and crash, according to a release from the Knox County Sheriff’s Office. An investigation is ongoing.

The sheriff’s office was notified about 10:20 p.m. Friday after a passer-by found Sanner on the ground near 468 Augusta Road, according to Chief Deputy Tim Carroll.

Carroll said Sanner was not wearing a helmet.

Sanner was taken by ambulance to Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport with neck and head injuries and later transferred to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor.
