JEFFERSON — A Jefferson man was arrested Monday after he allegedly tried to intimidate a crew of construction workers while wearing a gun, and created an armed standoff with police.
Lt. Rand Maker of the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office said 34-year-old John Burbank of 288 Goose Hill Road appeared to be inebriated when he approached a road crew that was doing work near his home.
When police arrived around 2:30 p.m., Burbank retreated to his home and refused requests by the officers to come out.
Sheriff’s deputies and officers from the Maine Warden Service and the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency surrounded Burbank’s home.
After a 45-minute standoff Burbank surrendered to police. He was arrested and charged with the felony crime of criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon and the civil offense of creating a police standoff.
Officers found several weapons, including a 9-mm semi-automatic handgun inside his home. Burbank is being held at Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset.
