MANCHESTER — A section of Pond Road will be closed next week so state crews can replace two cross culverts.

Ted Talbot, spokesman for the Maine Department of Transportation, said the road closure will begin May 21 with an estimated reopening in the afternoon of May 24, weather permitting.

The section of road to be closed begins at the intersection of Collins and Pond roads, and variable message board and signs have been set up to guide motorists along a five-mile detour.

The detour travels along Benson, Hallowell-Litchfield, Collins Mills and Neck roads.

“Commuters should expect delays and allow extra time,” Talbot said.

He said the state has notified schools, first responders and municipalities about the closure.

The work is estimated at $15,000 and will be performed by the department’s maintenance crew.
